No deal for the Critical Care Internship

I had my interview this morning for the Critical Care Intership at the University Hospital in Salt Lake. I felt I looked and did my best, but I found out this afternoon that I didn't get a position. They chose 12 people out of the 30 that interviewed...

I'm not sure exactly why I didn't get chosen but I could tell it was competitive. However, I have to look at the positive side since it is now out of my control and I can't say I have regrets.
There won't be so much pressure for my NCLEX, which will be good. Even though I'm not that worried about passing, it's the extra pressure that I can do without. Second, the timeline for moving is more flexible now, and with Jeromie already having a job in Salt Lake, it is not the end of the world that I haven't found mine yet.

I hope there is a better opportunity waiting for me. I think there will be.

The hardest part about this is not knowing what will happen next, or where to go from here. In the event that something happened to my grandpa, I may reconsider moving to Utah. However, I already applied for licensure in the state, and can only be licensed in one state at a time. I will wait a while to decide what to do. I am still planning on moving, but I guess the door is no longer closed off for the possibility of staying in Portland. However...regardless, I'm behind on job hunting and housing searches if I end up not moving. I've been so focused on finding things in Salt Lake.

The best thing I can do is try to keep looking in a job in Utah for now, since within Portland the opportunities are so minimal....I'd likely have to end up in some small outskirt town in Oregon which I'm not exactly dreaming of at night.

Back to school for now and I have a lot of things to consider. I'm allowing myself to be bummed out for the rest of the day and move on tomorrow!

Graduation

I got my annoucements yesterday! SO exciting. Each little piece of the puzzle is starting to come together and with each little moment I start to realize more and more that this thing is real! Am I really graduating soon?! Yes! Sometimes I can't believe it.

I have less than two months left! I will be doing my senior practicum on the night shift up at OSHU in Pediatrics. I'm not sure how I will handle night shift yet..we will see. My first night is tomorrow night.

NCLEX! It's getting closer. I registered with PearsonVue, the company that you take the exam through. I have applied for licensure in the state of Utah.

NSNA Convention! The annual convention for the National Student Nurses' Association is coming up! April 15-19th and Nashville! And I'm going! I'm a chosen representative for Linfield along with 5 other students. I will also be a delegate and sit in the House of Delegates where we make decisions on what NSNA should or should not support an elect new officers for the upcoming year! So exciting!

The week after the convention I will be heading to Salt Lake City for an interview at the University Hospital for their Critical Care Internship. I got some bad news the other day from Intermountain HealthCare which owns a large majority of the healthcare operations in Salt Lake...they are not hiring anyone for their nurse residency program in June unless they are already employed in the system. SO, that means, I can't even start work until August at the soonest in Primary Children's or anywhere else in the system if I don't get this job I'm interviewing for in April. It puts a little bit more pressure on me :(

That's all for now!

The Countdown

65 Days until Graduation!!!

I have one more week of the class I'm taking now and then I will be done with it! Starting the week of April 6th I will be taking my last course: Senior Practicum. I'm going to be doing night shift up on the hill at Doernbecher! SO excited. I also have this independent study thing I'm supposed to be doing...that reminds me, I should get to work on it. The focus is supposed to be CAM (Complimentary and Alternative Medicine) well, slash therapies...since it's nursing focused. I just heard about this thing called BodyTalk which sounds interesting so I might focus on that. Anyone have suggestions on a modality I should focus on? I don't want to do something that's been studied a ton already like acupuncture or massage. I actually thought prayer might be interesting but I have heard research that has been done that shows people did worse when others were praying for them....so maybe that's not going to uncover much interesting after all. I better get going on picking something to study, though...

Happy Spring! I hope the weather starts getting nicer. I can deal with a little rain as long as it's not 40 degrees..too cold!

Love,
Kristin
