Salt Lake City
1921 - 2009
On June 23, 2009 Margie closely followed her sweetheart Dail in passing from this life. Their children and grandchildren will always treasure the memory of their love and devotion for each other and the example of their 65 beautiful years together.
Marjorie R. Bennett was born on May 22, 1921 in Salt Lake City, Utah to William Hoople and Nellie Bluth Ransom. She married Dail H Bennett in New York City on December 10, 1943. He preceded her in death a short 7 weeks earlier. She graduated from West High School and then the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Her college years began her lifelong love of Utah football and basketball. She was a member of Delta Gamma social sorority and Beta Sigma Phi philanthropic sorority. During WWII, she served in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corp as a lieutenant from 1942-43 as a trainer and a plane spotter.
She was a soft spoken and gentle mother and wife. With her quiet strength, she encouraged her children to value education, social graces, and family. She put all of her energy into teaching them about the tools they would need in life.
Marjorie was a loving and supportive partner to Dail; they were each other’s best friend. They traveled the world together, exploring, learning, and embracing life and each other. She and Dad supported all of their children’s and grandchildren’s interests and activities, attending many graduations, sporting events, and recitals.
She cherished her friendships. She was an avid golfer, a lover of music, and a bridge guru. She spent many hours with Dail and her children at Willow Creek Country Club. She was a lifelong member of the Monument Park 3rd ward (Foothill 7th). Dail and Marge worked together as Stake Dance Directors. Both were marvelous dancers and they danced many a night away with the Hi-Steppers Dance Club.
Marjorie is survived by four daughters: Bonnie Daniloff, husband, William A., Pat Bennett, Barbara Maloney, husband, Michael P., Bev Kelsey, husband, Craig W. One son, William Dail, wife, Melissa; 14 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Dail; Alexandra Hoover Bennett, a granddaughter, her sisters Phyllis R. Madsen and Hazel R. Black.
We wish to thank Dini Droguett, her Alzheimer’s support group, and the staff at Brighton Gardens for the love, advice, and support they gave to Marge, Dail, and our family. Margie was loved by all and she maintained her spunkiness, poise and sense of self throughout the course of her illness.
Funeral services will be held at 12 PM Tuesday June 30, 2009 at the Foothill 7th Ward, 2215 E Roosevelt Avenue. Family and friends may call 6-7:30 Monday evening at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 255 South 200 East, SLC and at the church on Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Directly following the service, interment will be at Wasatch Lawn, 3401 South Highland Drive (Enter from 33rd South).
